Burzum - Black Metal Band
- Band: Burzum
- Genre: Black Metal
- Lyrical Themes: Folklore, Nationalism, Philosophy

Burzum is a solo black metal project founded by Varg Vikernes in 1991.
Varg Vikernes began producing music as early as 1988, under the band name Uruk-Hai, but it wasn't until 1991 that he started the band Burzum.
Almost immediately after its inception, Burzum became a part of the second wave Norwegian black metal scene alongside Mayhem and Darkthrone.
To this day, Burzum is still considered to be one of the most influential acts in black metal and perhaps in heavy metal music altogether.
In March 1992, Varg Vikernes released his debut album, the self-titled Burzum, one of the earliest black metal albums ever recorded.
The sound and style of Burzum have evolved from one album to another, with the earlier albums having a more orthodox black metal atmosphere and the later ones incorporating a more minimalist, atmospheric and classical-inspired style of music.
Varg Vikernes has defined the music of Burzum as a spell that can transport the listener into other realms of consciousness.
He has stated the message of Burzum can be found in the lyrics of the first song of the first album, the track Feeble Screams from Forests Unknown.
Proof of the influential nature of Burzum's music, the record number of Burzum covers performed by various bands from the extreme metal scene and beyond.
Burzum has never played live and Varg Vikernes called the metalhead culture "closet homosexuality".
