Hvis Lyset tar Oss is the third studio album by the black metal band Burzum.
Unlike the two previous albums, the self-titled Burzum and Det Som Engang Var, Varg Vikernes wanted Hvis Lyset tar Oss to be a completely atmospheric album.
According to Varg Vikernes himself, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is a true black metal album, going against the grain of the modern commercial "trendy" black metal scene of the time, which had little to no relation to the original black metal spirit.
Varg Vikernes also claimed he wanted an "anti-death metal" album, as he believed that modern death metal bands were "empty", having only the style but none of the substance of what makes great music.
