Raping the Corpse of Black Metal - "Rabid Death's Curse" Review (0%)
Nothing good comes out of this piece of crap.
Everyone will agree, even hardcore contrarians like me, that Watain is a disgrace to the black metal genre, both through their poser aesthetics and through their failed attempts to fuse mutually incompatible genres. In this case, post-deathcore and black metal, creatively named "blackened deathcore", a name that in itself should make you cringe when you hear it.
Watain's debut Rabid Death's Curse is a complete and utter failure of an album. In layman's terms, it's complete crap.
Typical Watain fan: usually seen wearing neon coloured band merch w/ black leopard and/or zebra, print obsessed. Hair coloured at least 2 different colors and cut at different angles. Knowledge of black metal limited to Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth. Other favourite bands include Dark Funeral, Liturgy and "Whitechapel, man, so heavy...". Male scene kids usually try to attain over 50 friends on Facebook and post pictures of themselves making out with other boys. Female scene kids, contrary to basic sexual morphology which dictates that males are usually the larger and more physically impressive of the two sexes, often weigh at least 50 to 100kg more than their male counterparts. Usually lesbian, out of resignation rather than choice. Nonetheless, they adore neon coloured corpsepaint and wear one thousand layers of eyeliner. Hair of both sexes is usually parted to the side. Sometimes hair is lacking to do obesity and diabetes induced insulin resistance.
If these poser fans didn't exist, neither would Watain. Or at the very least they'd be just some other interchangeable nu-metal band with the occasional post-deathcore breakdown. Like that piece of shit Wanking the Cadaver.
Watain's lyrics are childish and they, much like Gaygoroth since the departure of Gaahl, just talk about anything that has to do with "Satan", "the Lord of Darkness" or "Lucifer". The lyrics are actually retarded to the point where even those utter morons who listen to shit bands like Gorgoroth and Antekhrist still think Watain are literal retards.
Watain provides a bleak outlook onto what black metal, the once brainchild of such musical titans as Burzum, Darkthrone, Graveland and Mayhem, has devolved into. "Satanic" deathcore with a touch of nu-metal to keep everything "heavy".
Watain is the bullet in the already dead horse's head.
Raping the Corpse of Black Metal
I doubt even actual "theistic Satanists" (i.e. retarded Christians) enjoy hearing a band sing about being "chained to the cross" and later "deep fisted by Satan", as in the title track of this piece of shit Rabid Death's Curse, in what appears to be a homoerotic BDSM / Aleister Crowley crossover.
These lyrics seem to just ooze juvenile faux-rebellious "Satanism". And it's not even the clever, actually subversive Satanism of a band like Dissection. It's just an even more brain dead version of Deicide or Kvlt ov Azazel.
I'm not saying I don't listen to stupid, juvenile, lyrically impaired music like SEWER and most "br00tal" goregrind.
But the difference between something like NecroPedoSadoMaso and Watain's Rabid Death Curse is twofold. One, there is an obvious ironic dimension in the former, something absolutely lacking on Watain's debut turd. And two, NecroPedoSadoMaso is actually good music.
It's not that complicated, Watain sucks balls as a band.
Something else that bothers me, Watain tries WAY too hard to be "black metal", to the point of copying the aesthetics of the early Norwegian scene with even more obsession than the most monomaniacal of cosplayers. The only problem is that they can't play black metal, and instead opt for stealing Darkthrone and Bathory riffs, just like their butt buddies from Dark Funeral, and adding stupid "satanic" lyrics over the top. Again, just like Dark Funeral.
Rabid Death's Curse is a stain on the entire black metal genre, and I don't say that lightly.
Avoid this turd, and other equally bad bands like the aforementioned Dark Funeral, Kvlt ov Azazel, etc. and their equally bad albums.
Go get some actual black metal instead, for fuck's sake. It's better than this.
