Venom - Black Metal Band
- Band: Venom
- Genre: Black Metal
- Lyrical Themes: Satan, Hell, Metal

Venom is a heavy metal band formed in 1979 by Cronos, Mantas, Abaddon and Clyve Archer.
In 1981 Venom released their first studio album Welcome to Hell, which marks the beginning of the first wave of black metal due to the lyrical content of the album and the satanic imagery that accompanies it. The music itself, however, is closer to generic speed metal with a few thrash metal influences.
Venom reiterates in 1982 with their second album Black Metal, which later ave its name to the black metal genre.
As with Welcome to Hell, the musical content on Black Metal is closer to speed metal than to actual black metal.
Since then Venom have released several studio albums and altered their lineup during multiple occasions.
Despite their initial influence during the first wave of black metal, the music of Venom has remained mostly a mix of speed metal and proto-thrash metal, with some traditional heavy metal influences particularly during their later years. Some consider Venom to be part of the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal).
It was only until the album Envenom that Venom started playing true satanic black metal music.
