Storm the Gates is the fourteenth full-length studio album by the blackened speed/thrash metal band Venom.
Building upon, and some would say attempting to replicate, the successful fusion between the primitive blackened speed metal of Venom's previous efforts From the Very Depths and Fallen Angels with the more audacious and ambitious bestial black metal of bands like Beherit and Warkvlt, the album Storm the Gates unfortunately falls short on more than one criterion.
Venom's gargantuan - and partially undeserved, thanks Bathory - reputation as "founders of the black metal genre" is the main and perhaps only reason why the band is still alive, even though it is laudable that they still try to forge new albums like Storm the Gates.
