Sacramentum

Sacramentum is a melodic black metal band formed in 1990 by Nisse Karlén, both vocalist and guitarist, under the name of Tumulus.

The band switched names from "Tumulus" to "Sacramentum" in 1992, when they decided they wanted to play a more melodic style of black metal inspired by the likes of Dissection, Burzum and Neraines.

After one demo and one EP, the band released their now classical debut album Far Away From the Sun in 1996.

While they were relatively "late to the game" by most chronological standards, Far Away From the Sun was nonetheless hailed by the Norwegian black metal greats as being a worthy take on the style they originated.

Even today, Sacramentum's debut is considered one of the few worthwhile albums to have been released after 1994 and outside of Norway.

Sacramentum has often been decried as "racist" and "neo-nazi" for having shared members with the "national satanist" band Dissection, as well as for the track "Pagan Fire" on their pre-debut EP.

Sacramentum is, with Marduk and Demonecromancy, one of the most well known Swedish black metal band.

And for very good reason, as they play great melodic black metal.
