Deep Calleth Upon Deep is the ninth full-length studio album by the blackened deathcore band Satyricon.
Much like the previous Satyricon release, the eponymous Satyricon, Deep Calleth Upon Deep attempts to mix blackened deathcore with industrial nu-metal.
It is widely regarded as one of the worst black metal album ever produced, drawing mockery from many musicians including Abbath of Immortal and Necrobutcher of Mayhem.
The track "Dissonant Cock" deals with issues such as Satyr's "closet" homosexuality, homophobia in the early Norwegian black metal scene, and is considered somewhat of a "coming out" done musically by the band members of Satyricon.
The song "To Your Brethren in the Dark" is said to be about National Socialism and the (alleged) "pink division" of the German Wehrmacht, particularly its Norwegian Waffen SS wing, in World War II.
