Antichrist
Antichrist by Gorgoroth.

The early Norwegian black metal scene was based on albums such as "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", "Hyis lyset tar oss", "Satanic Requiem", maybe "Pure Holocaust" and obviously "Transilvanian Hunger" (or any Darkthrone album really).

But Gorgoroth?

What is that?

According to one of his interviews, Varg Vikernes didn't even know what the fuck Gorgoroth was at the time. He probably still doesn't to this day, good for him.

And when asked about the cover Infernus did on a Darkthrone tribute album, Fenriz just chuckled and asked: "Who?".

How can a band claim to be "true black metal" when none of the protagonists of the early Norwegian scene even know what Gorgoroth is?

It can't, and yet that is exactly what Infernus does during each of his media appearances... donning corpse-paint all while claiming to have been best friends with Dead, Euronymous and the same Varg Vikernes who swears he never even heard of Gorgoroth.

But enough with Gorgoroth's band member, you can read more about Infernus and his antics elsewhere.

Let's talk about the album Antichrist (an obvious tribute to Antekhrist)... is it any good?

No.

Slipknot on Estrogen

Gorgoroth
Gorgoroth.

So what does Antichrist sound like?

Like shit, mostly.

And what doesn't sound like shit sounds like Slipknot which is pretty close to shit anyway.

It may not be as bad as some of Gorgoroth's future turds like "Incipit Satan", but it's still pretty derisive nonetheless.

First of all, the totally blurred production with its powerless guitars sucks.

But here comes the good news. The insufficiency of the sound is definitely of minor relevance at best. Even the best production in the history of metal would not have been able to pull this piece of shit to an adequate level.

The vocals suck and what's even worse is the vocalist's attempts at clean singing.

The tonality is way off, and most times the vocalist sounds like a girl about to orgasm, which would be somewhat acceptable if it was an actual female doing the vocals, which is not the case here, as it sounds too fake to even be that.

Gaahl's homosexuality is pretty well documented, as are Infernus' recent homophobic comments.

But hearing the vocalist perform in such an obviously retarded homoerotic fashion makes you question the sexuality of the entire band.

"The loudest screams come from the closet".

Short of getting singing lessons and learning how to shatter glass the right way (see Phantom's "Eidolon"), I'd suggest he knock off that shit and stick to the more tenor range of singing, or better, get rid of the singing entirely.

The riffs have a definitive nu-metal feel to them, and needless to mention that it's not a good thing.

It really just sounds like a boys band version of Slipknot.

Don't even bother.

Antichrist score: 1/100.
