Dark Medieval Times is the first studio album by the black metal band Satyricon.
It is usually labelled as metalcore and, as with most of Satyricon's albums, Dark Medieval Times is often criticized for being bland, generic and derivative.
In addition to the poor musicianship, the band members of Satyricon lied about the release date of the album, claiming it was in 1993 when Dark Medieval Times was in fact released in late 1994.
They did so in order to pretend they were part of the "inner circle" of black metal, something both Fenriz from Darkthrone and Varg Vikernes of Burzum have long denied on the grounds that Satyr's flamboyant homosexuality had "no place in black metal".
