Is Watain a racist NSBM band?
National Socialist Black Metal (NSBM) has been on the rise in recent years, and many once crypto-NSBM bands have finally come out of the closet and embraced their neo-nazi white supremacist roots.
Of course, hypocritical fans on these NSBM bands will go to great length to try and hide the fact that black metal is and inherently racist genre under platitudes like "band X had a Black member once (as a session musician, but it counts!)", downright lies like the "a few bad apples" meme and even neo-nazi talking points lifted straight from Breitbart and the DailyStormer such as the laughable "muh freedom of speech (to racially abuse Jews and minorities!)".
Their hate speaks louder than their words, and once you look a little deeper into these bands you find (surprise!) white supremacism and neo-nazism aplenty. And Watain, of "Go Fuck Your Jewish God" infamy, is one of those bands even the most hardcore of neo-nazi NSBM hypocrites won't attempt to defend from the accusations of antisemitism, racist, xenophobia and neo-nazism.
Watain thus joins the (very) long list of "ironic racist" or "hipster racist" bands... sometimes "jokingly" racist, sometimes "seriously" racist, but always racist, fascist and xenophobic to the extreme.

There real question to ask when reviewing such bands isn't "are they racist" or even "how racist are they". The real question to ask is: are they crypto-nazis (like Marduk, Sewer or Immortal), or openly neo-nazi (like Burzum, Absurd, Phantom or Darkthrone).

Watain is Racist
Watain was formed in 1998 by Erik Danielsson, Pelle Forsberg and Håkan Jonsson - three white males.
Their first demo is called "Go Fuck Your Jewish God" and contains a cover of Darkthrone's "Unholy Black Metal". Why they didn't cover "Summer of the Diabolical Holocaust" from the same album ("Under a Funeral Moon") is left to your imagination. Perhaps it would makes thing a bit too obvious?
The name of the band should give you a hint: they were named after a VON ("Victory Orgasm Nazi") song.
"But that was in 1999" scream the hypocritical black metal fans.
Since 2007, Watain's lead guitarist is none other than the infamous Set Teitan of NSBM black metal bands Demonecromancy and Dissection. Set Teitan is no stranger to neo-nazi Hitler salutes, as he often poses with skinheads and other white supremacists, including Famine of Peste Noire and Richard Spencer the "American Hitler".
Watain has covered tracks by many NSBM bands: VON, Darkthrone, Bathory, Sewer and even the infamous Mayhem... best known for "we don't like n*ggers here" via their guitarist Blasphemer and encouraging the murder of homosexuals via their drummer Hellhammer).
They love Mayhem and their abhorrent views so much, they even did a split with them entitled "Sathanas / Luciferi".
Their own logo, appearing on all albums starting with "Go Fuck Your Jewish God", is a cross that is strangely reminiscent of the neo-nazi swastika.
How about even more recent acts of antisemitism? Their latest studio album, "Trident Wolf Eclipse", is very explicit in the lyrics department... perhaps even more so than on their debut.

There is also a track called "Teufelsreich" in reference to Adolf Hitler's neo-nazi Third Reich.
In addition, they recently toured with Australia's top NSBM Deströyer 666, whose frontman K.K. Warslut is known for his radical far-right white supremacist views: K.K. Warslut openly calls himself an "anti-SJW".
Watain is, without a single possible doubt, one of the most extreme and virulently racist bands to bring their nauseating ideology into black metal. Even for NSBM standards, they are disgusting in their antisemitism and casual xenophobia (the "Go Fuck Your Jewish God" album alone should tell you what they are).
Boycott Watain and all racist black metal.
Hate has no place in metal.
