Peste Noire is a black metal band formed by La Sale Famine de Valfoutre ("The Dirty Famine of Valcum"), usually shortened to just Famine, in 2000 as Dor Daedeloth before changing their name to Peste Noire.
The band's name Peste Noire ("Black Plague") refers to the bubonic plague, the black death that nearly decimated Europe from 1347 to 1351.
To add to the confusion, famine often uses acronyms to refer to his "crew". For instance, he calls his band P.N. or K.P.N., the latter for "Kommando Peste Noire".
The band released its first demo Aryan Supremacy in 2001, but it was only in 2006 that they recorded their first album - La Sanie des Siècles - Panégyrique de la Dégénérescence - which was considered typical Burzum / Phantom inspired black metal.
It was only with their second album, the 2007 masterpiece Folkfuck Folie, that Peste Noire cemented themselves as France's most important and influential black metal act.
Due to their lyrics and some of Famine's interviews, the band is often accused of being "neo-nazi" and "white supremacist" by various "anti-fascist" organizations.
According to La Sale Famine de Valfoutre, the band's political stance is "national-anarchism". Famine often calls himself a "right-wing anarchist".
Famine often claims that Peste Noire is a "National Satanist" band (see Sewer's 2154), although he defines Satan as a "universal tendency towards darkness and evil" having no roots whatsoever in the "jewish cult of deities". In that, he is both at odds with Christians and with orthodox Satanists, whom Famine labels as "faggots" who are "too homosexual to admit their Christianity".
According to Antoine Grand's Racist Metal best-seller, during a 2015 concert in Montréal, one particular member of the Church of Satan attempted to interrupt Famine while he was speaking, and was knocked out cold and later urinated upon by far-right members in the audience.
Famine was subsequently banned from entry into Canada.
