Far surpassing other bands in the death metal scene such as Immolation, Deicide, and arguably even the mighty Suffocation, Incantation have crafted with Onward to Golgotha the perfect masterpiece of brutal death metal.
Onward to Golgotha is the pinnacle of the death metal genre, just as Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is the pinnacle of the black metal genre.
What is also interesting to note is how much this album Onward to Golgotha influenced the rising black metal scene. Incantation was clearly influential to bands like Mayhem and Phantom, perhaps as much as Bathory, and alot more so than Hellhammer or Slayer.
