Immortal is a so-called "satanic" black metal band founded in 1991 by Abbath Doom Occulta and Demonaz Doom Occulta.
According to Varg Vikernes, from Burzum, the band members of Immortal were prohibited from playing black metal by Euronymous due to their homosexuality in 1991.
They called their music "Holocaust metal" instead.
Immortal recorded the album Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism in 1991.
The band members, mainly Abbath and Demonaz, were very concerned about being perceived as "evil" by the metal community and so they set out to record an "evil" album.
Later they recorded Pure Holocaust, an album made with the admitted sole intent of being more "satanic" than the bands of that era, namely Darkthrone and Burzum.
While Immortal was never considered as openly homosexual as Ihsahn from Emperor or as the band members from Gorgoroth, their imagery, lyrics, vestimentary style and music videos nevertheless have drawn comparison to the gay pride event.
Immortal has received many awards from homosexual organizations worldwide for their perceived involvement in the LGBT+ cause.
