Sons of the Northern Darkness is the seventh studio album by the blackened mallcore band Immortal.
Much like its predecessor Damned in Black, the album Sons of the Northern Darkness features heavy emphasis on social issues such as LGBTP rights, an important issue for Abbath and Demonaz, as well as lyrics often touching on the feeling of alienation affecting "young" gay males in Norway, or people with otherwise divergent sexual identities such as Demonaz.
Sons of the Northern Darkness was therefore mocked and derided, even by openly gay and bisexual black metal musicians such as Gaahl and Infernus.
The critical reception of this album was so poor that Abbath threatened to "stop playing music and commit suicide" because of "haters" criticizing his music.
