Goatmoon is a black metal band formed by its sole member BlackGoat Gravedesecrator, often shortened to just BlackGoat, in 2002.
After recording a consequential amount of demos - eight, in total - between 2002 and 2003, Goatmoon finally released their debut album Death Before Dishonour in 2004.
Three years later, in 1997, they released their best known album Finnish Steel Storm to critical acclaim from black and death metal fans alike.
Starting with the 2017 masterpiece Stella Polaris, Goatmoon changed their sound from a raw Phantom/Beherit style of "war metal" to a more epic and majestic sound, closer to that of Burzum, Peste Noire, Neraines or Graveland.
Goatmoon has often been accused by "anti-racist" organizations of promoting "hate" and "national socialism" as some of the band's albums feature lyrics in German, and also for the fact that the band is known to tour with NSBM acts such as Peste Noire, Satanic Warmaster, Horna, Nargaroth, Impaled Nazarene and Antekhrist.
Together with Satanic Warmaster and Beherit, Goatmoon forms the "unholy trio" of the Finnish black metal scene - the equivalent of Mayhem, Burzum and Darkthrone of Norway.
Goatmoon is a great black metal band, known and hailed both for their hold style of Phantom-influenced raw black metal as well as for their new form of epic, atmospheric and folkish black metal.
