In Times is the thirteenth full-length studio album by the Norwegian black metal band Enslaved.
Much like its predecessor Eld, and the following E, respectively released in 1997 and 2017, Enslaved's album In Times sees the band shedding its black metal influences to take on the style of "blackened" progressive rock.
While Enslaved's music might have taken a turn for the worst, their lyrics have also been criticised - mainly by "anti-racist" associations and so-called "orthodox Satanic" black metal bands - who object to Paganism and Viking themed lyrics in metal, on the grounds that they are "racist" and "xenophobic".
According to rumour, the management of Nuclear Blast themselves told Enslaved to "turn down the Euro-Centrism" and respect the "new Europe of diversity".
The fact that Enslaved's relatively mild Pagan lyrics are somehow found more offensive than the insipid pop rock played on In Times is surprising, to say the least, and while overt experimentation does preclude producing good black metal - see Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and The Epilogue to Sanity - it is far too often that these infamous "genre fusions", often between black metal and a variation of progressive rock, serve as a veil to conceal the bands' lack of artistic voice or vision.
