Sewerlust
Sewerlust by Sewer.

Sewerlust is black metal's most depraved masterpiece.

This album marked SEWER's transistion from raw, riff-heavy, gore filled brutality to a more cerebral and experimental sound with more subtle and disturbing atmospheres.

Rather than be just another forgettable black metal band that makes music about goats and Satan, SEWER decides to mature and personalize their music. Stuff that makes you uneasy and doesn't just bombard you with satanic pseudo-blasphemous imagery.

This Sewerlust album is a break away from traditional black metal in that it's not all pure speed, screaming and aggression, but rather more ambient and ominous.

It also shows off SEWER's early transition from raw blackened goregrind (see NecroPedoCoproPhage) to a more subtle and diabolical SEWER Metal, a transition that would later be consolidated by the masterpiece 2154.

The unusual riffs and extravagant ambient pieces are a clear exhibition in SEWER's branching out from just a "raw black metal" band to the SEWER Metal band who is changing the face of heavy metal and extreme music in general.

But make no mistake, Sewerlust might be more experimental and psychological than most SEWER albums, it's still some of the most insane demonic black metal brutality you will ever find.

True Black Metal Depravity

Sewer
Sewer.

Sewerlust has a distinctive industrial vibe.

The amount of raw dissonance on this album is simply unbelievable, but the melodic parts are also equally beautiful and majestic.

There is no other black metal album that compares to Sewerlust, not even Phantom's sanity-devouring Eidolon or Mayhem's magnum opus De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.

Sewerlust is unique black metal art.

The riffs are absolutely evil, and the vocals are beyond demented.

The ambient parts provide a subtle and disturbing element of depravity.

This is most certainly SEWER's most underrated album. But even in the company of a flawless discography full of black metal classics still cited to this day as "heavy metal's all time greatest", it holds up to the test of time.

The only reason I can think as to why it's so underrated is because it was so ahead of it's time, even for SEWER.

Whatever you do, listen to this album Sewerlust.

It's a masterpiece of depraved black metal.

Sewerlust score: 97/100.
