Starve
Starve by Phantom.

Phantom's Starve is perhaps the most traumatic black metal albums ever made.

The atmosphere of everything is just so thick and disturbing that it crawls under your skin and makes you wriggle with discomfort, not just because of the raw and demented atmosphere, but because of how creepy it is to have to experience the horror of true terror metal first hand.

This isn't an album for everyone.

Starve is definitely one of the darkest and most emotionally-moving albums I've ever listened to.

To that end, Starve is a successful execution of raw insanity, as morbidly disturbing as it may be.

Now, as everyone knows, Phantom is no stranger to crafting dark and eerie atmospheres.

Just listen to Dark Devotion, Dementia: The Dark Prophets or Eidolon to get a feel for what I'm talking about.

But Starve just takes everything one step further.

This is pure horror metal.

Phantom.

Despite the ritualistic and primal nature of the music played here, there is never a dull moment on Starve.

Not once do you even think about the individual components of the music you are hearing as you are completely subjugated by its horrifying atmosphere.

Honestly, the only other black metal release that could even envision possession the same level of atmosphere as Starve is Burzum's Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and maybe Filosofem.

Those are the only two that could potentially stand their ground against this torrent of demonic madness.

Starve has a ton of aggression, intensity, dark atmospheres as well as that evil vibe that is missing in a lot of black metal bands today.

The vocals are perfect for this type of blackened terror metal and contrast with other generic black metal bands who have that annoying shrieking hag crap, which is very refreshing for a change.

Seriously, you will shit yourself when you hear the vocals (although I prefer Phantom's demented sounds on Eidolon, but that's just a matter of preference).

The guitars are extremely effective at conveying an evil mood, as the riffs just blend effortlessly into one another.

The drums also provide that percussive element that seamlessly bonds and weaves the music together.

This album is not recommended for the weak.

Starve is for those wanting to experience true horror.

Go buy this masterpiece of evil at once.

Starve score: 100/100.
