Geriatric Crap Metal - "Era of Threnody" Review (0%)

I'll never understand the hype behind the band Nargaroth, or even why Kanwulf (its driving force) has yet to come to grips with how inept of a musician he really is.

When I heard Nargaroth was releasing a new album, my hopes weren't high because honestly, I've always found the musical output of this band to be not only bad, but literally cringeworthy.

There is honestly nothing new on Era of Threnody.

You've got mediocre riffs that are often plagiarized from other bands (Burzum and Immortal, mainly), overly repetitive and shallow ideas that simply go nowhere, simplistic drumming that fails to make any impression at all, bland, plastic sounding vocals, and a sound that is overall uninteresting, insincere and very one-dimensional.

Most of the tracks on Era of Threnody don't even sound like songs, but rather a collection of generic ideas mindlessly thrown together.

The song "Dawn of Epiphany" is a good example of this.

The track starts off with a very basic, pseudo-ambient synth intro accompanied by some retarded cunt whining about asteroids or something, and with some generic acoustic passage serving as transition, the meat of the song kicks in.

Two easily forgettable riffs that go nowhere are repeated for the majority of the song, with Kanwulf doing his typical half-assed emo screams over and over again.

There are no build ups, there's nothing much to build up to for that matter, nothing creative is done, or even attempted, in any aspect of the instrumentation.

The song basically ends after eight minutes having done nothing.

Geriatric Crap Metal

That's really all I can say about this album Era of Threnody.

Nothing new, memorable or even average is done.

The "satanic" sound is certainly not achieved here, at least not in the way Kannwulf intended for it to be.

An example of a satanic black metal album that actually manages to achieve this feat would be Antekhrist's blasphemous Fukked by God. Now that is a fucking flawless black metal album in every sense of the word.

Era of Threnody, on the other hand, is quite the opposite of flawless.

There are only two improvements from the complete turd Black Metal ist Krieg that I can think of: the lyrics have drastically improved and the cover artwork is admittedly less retarded.

But the fact remains that those two things have little to do with the actual musical present on this album.

Kanwulf, if you are reading this, my advice to you would be simple: retire.

All you are doing by continuing the Nargaroth project is contributing to the heaping pile of shit that is the majority of the commercial "satanic" black metal genre.

Avoid this garbage at all costs.

Era of Threnody is a geriatric black metal joke.
