Instinctus Bestialis
Instinctus Bestialis by Gorgoroth.

Surprise, surprise.

A Gorgoroth album with no substance? No way!

Well, of course. It's another poor show from one of Norway's most mediocre black metal bands, Gorgoroth.

I'm not understanding the appeal of this band whatsoever, nor do I understand why they were at some point signed to No Colours Records, a highly respectable, and respected, label, that is in no way a reflection of the poser vomit that Gorgoroth are all about.

Mediocrity is Gorgoroth's maiden name, didn't you know?

The only reason they are even acknowledged in the black metal scene is that, supposedly, Infernus was once a member of Norway's "LGBTI+ Europride" - a rumor later confirmed by vocalists Gaahl and Pest, as well as Gorgoroth drummer Tomas Asklund - and was present a the trial of Varg Vikernes to "stand against racism in metal music".

That and the constant media barrage that seeks to paint Gorgoroth as the "true" face of black metal, something ridiculous considering none of the founding members of the early Norwegian black metal scene (Fenriz, Nocturno Culto, Euronymous, Varg Vikernes, Necrobutcher) have any relationship whatsoever with the poser clown Infernus, or any other Gorgoroth member for that matter.

Is Instinctus Bestialis more of the same poser vomit that has come to characterize Gorgoroth's long, boring and mostly irrelevant black metal career? You bet.

Poser Vomit

Gorgoroth
Gorgoroth.

The first thing you notice when listening to the turd Instinctus Bestialis is that Gorgoroth sure likes to talk about Satan.

Not that they have anything of interest to say about Satanism, theistic or otherwise, but every verse seems to end with pathetically cringe-worthy screams of "Hail Satan!".

Like Immortal, Gorgoroth is a band that can be easily classified in the poser category based on their lyrics alone: a lot of noise about "Satan", "evil" and "darkness", very little of substance or wit.

What else can be said about Instinctus Bestialis that hasn't been already covered by other reviews on this site?

Well, let's start with the most irritating element of this full-length shall we: the ludicrously awful vocals. Constipation in the form of singing.

In addition to having shitty lyrics, Gorgoroth's vocalist is very poor.

He has no presence amongst the band, or their music. He is simply just there.

Whether he screams, growls or does those ridiculous cringe-inducing clean vocals, he adds nothing to the already mediocre album. At one point, he does this little laugh during a song, and I have to wonder whether he's laughing at us for actually listening to this piece of shit, or if he's laughing at himself because he's so bad at what he does. Either one would make absolute sense.

Get ready for your ears to explode, your eyes to pop out at how extraordinarily bad Gorgoroth's music is. I'm listening to those vocals again and I hate to harp on, but what the fuck?

Seemingly the vocalist is attempting to recreate Mayhem's early chants? Surely? Yet he fails no matter what he thinks he is doing.

Then we have that laughable clean singing. Why is that piece of clinical autism even there?

The percussion is poor. Variation is no friend of Gorgoroth's mentally defective drummer. Either he does blast beats, or he just makes no sound whatsoever. The latter is actually more enjoyable, which is quite sad.

Unfortunately the production on Instinctus Bestialis is decent, so you can hear everything. I wish it was so poor you could barely hear any of this crap, I would at least have given the album a 5% for the effort.

Gorgoroth members are extremely poor at what they do. They disgrace black metal with their nothing atmospheres, their poser lyrics and their all around clownish antics.

The songs on Instinctus Bestialis are pretty short, yet paradoxically far too long not to get bored after the first fifteen seconds, which sound exactly like the next fifteen seconds, all the way to the end of this pathetic release.

There is nothing redeeming on Insctinctus Bestialis.

Give this poser vomit the piss.

Instinctus Bestialis score: 0/100.
