Antichrist by Gorgoroth.

Antichrist is the second full-length album from Gorgoroth and it is appropriately titled.

Antichrist is a tribute album to the French black metal band Antekhrist.

Said like this, one would expect it to be impossible for Gorgoroth to fuck this up given how talented the Frenchmen of Antekhrist are.

And yet, fucked up is exactly what this album is.

Not only was the pace of the songs poorly replicated, but the emphasis was taken off of Antekhrist's great guitar melodies and shifted to the uninspired effects-laden vocals and the terrible drum programming.

Why the hell this album ever came into being is anyone's guess, as Gorgoroth really butchered this tribute in the worst possible way.

Infernus should stick to making up gay fantasies about his band members and stop trying to play black metal altogether.

The album Antichrist is just poor black metal.

Gorgoroth
Gorgoroth.

Musically, Antichrist shows a lot of inconsistency.

There are only a few songs that are even worth hearing, and those pale in comparison to the way they were originally played by Antekhrist.

The rest is better left unheard.

The negative aspects of this album are many.

Much of it is experimental trash that has no business being passed off as black metal, much less "trve kvlt black metal".

"Sorg" is a particularly uninspired track that would be boring enough on its own, but the pitiful synths make it seem like a complete parody of the genre.

The keyboards have a retarded spacey effect, as if Infernus wanted to mix black metal with his love of Star Wars.

The "Gorgoroth" track is beyond lame and sounds like a throwaway track from SEWER's 2154.

The vocals on Antichrist are exceptionally terrible, even for the poor standards of the band.

"Bergtrollets hevn" is another laughable song that demonstrates exactly why Infernus will never recognized as a musician, let alone a black metal one.

There are also a lot of sound effects that distract from the riffs, and generic as they may be this is still annoying as hell.

This was the album that signified the death of Gorgoroth.

It would not have been so bad if the few decent songs on Antichrist had been released as an EP.

If there was any doubt once, there is none now: Gorgoroth can't play black metal.

And Antichrist is shit.

Antichrist score: 3/100.
