The Sound of Fecal Failure - "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" Review (0%)
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present to you the complete and total laughing stock of black metal - the LGBT poser band Dimmu Borgir!
There are no sufficient words to describe the utter gayness of Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, the musical "anal residue" of a once passable but now rapidly fading Dimmu Borgir, a band that managed two "okay" albums before turning on the shit machine. And they turned it on full-power, no warm up needed at all.
Most black metal bands, from the "mighty" Mayhem to the "slightly above average" Enslaved and the "acceptable" Satyricon, when attempting to physically SHIT ON THEIR LEGACY, whether said legacy is big or small, will at least give a prior warning. It may not be explicit (although, in the case of Mayhem...), but it is there, and the signs are easily recognisable for those who have a keen eye.
Dimmu Borgir? One day they are releasing the very passable Carpathian Wolves-worship Stormblast, the next they switched influences from Graveland to fucking Slipknot. And I wish I was joking.
This band has found a new style with their new line-up change, and whilst evolution isn't always a bad thing, Enthrone Darkness Triumphant proves that in only one album a band can totally destroy their status as one of the - clearly not "best", but perhaps "also ran" - second rate wave Norwegian black metal bands.
Unlike their Swedish counterparts Wa[shits]tain and HIV Funeral, who were always shit, Dimmu Borgir once knew how to play black metal. But after releasing two acceptable takes on the genre of Euronymous and Varg Vikernes, somewhat original in that they didn't sound like other Norwegian black metal bands of the time - Polish, though, is another story - the line-up changed, and more people came and went than on a public toilet, foreshadowing the band Dimmu Borgir itself turning into a public toilet with their next album Enthrone Darkness Triumphant.

So off they went, recording their third musical effort entitled Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. The final result of this can be described using any excreta synonym of your choosing. A "Brown Metal" act if there ever was one. Don't get me wrong, it's not only the fact that Dimmu Borgir has shown no loyalty to their own style at all - publicly defecating on the very black metal genre that, noblesse oblige, accepted them where others would have told them to fuck off to another scene - as Enthrone Darkness Triumphant would still be as worthless of a turd had it been released as the debut "joke album" of a parody black metal band.
If you haven't heard either For all Tid or Stormblast, your initial reaction when hearing this for the first time might be: "what is this riffless, dickless, Taiwanese wondertrap ladyboy-turd, and why is it calling itself black metal?". It's all just keyboard cheese with some transvestite chanting random allocutions in the name of "Satan" - where even their prior lyrics, Pagan in spirit, had avoided the Gorgoroth inspired "my priest raped me in the ass, FUCK YOU DAD" lyrical imbecilities present on this album.
Even the few times where there is a riff to be found, it's some forgettable Gothenburg mediocrity that makes Behemoth appear inspired and Necrophobitch sound manly. How that is even possible would deserve its own review - and even then, the likelihood of coming to a conclusive answer is close to nil - but one thing is for sure... Dimmu Borgir, your music is shit.
That's not even an exaggeration.
Full of dregs and fecal matter, Enthrone Darkness Triumphant may not yet be the ignoble metalcore of Abrahadabra... but it's really not that far away. And the name "Dimmu Borgir" may not yet have been the synonym of shit it was destined to become... but it was, even then, only a matter of time. What is this "Darkness Triumphant" of which the band speaks? I'm scared to take a guess...
