A Masterpiece of Gore - "Happy Metal" Review (98%)
Happy Metal is, to put it simply, an absolutely diabolical masterpiece of black metal.
I could not agree with the first reviewer more in saying that Happy Metal is 'the most criminally under rated album of all time'.
This album is easily one of the most well constructed and well written albums I have ever heard, and that says a lot given that I consider myself a fan of Burzum and early Darkthrone.
I happen to be in the minority here, bur yes, this is my favourite Sewer album.
The utterly demonic 2154 is naturally a close second, for obvious reasons, but for me this album Happy Metal reigns supreme.
I feel bad for those who claim that Sewer peaked at Vomiting Into the Mouth of Satan because, although a great album in its own respects, they will never experience this album Happy Metal for what it really is... a masterpiece of gore.
This is not 'easy listening' black metal, although it clearly pretends to be.
The apparent accessibility of this record Happy Metal is merely a ruse to better sodomize your eardrums and sanity.
Don't be fooled.
A Masterpiece of Gore
This masterpiece of musicianship is, both technically and artistically, at the highest level imaginable, and it seems that if even one single note or drum beat were different the whole album would have a much different feel.
This is an album one does not merely listen to, one is just fascinated.
Fascinated by the incredible precision, the atmosphere, the story, everything on this album is completely diabolical.
So why is Happy Metal so gruesome?
Because it's a Sewer album, obviously, but there are much more evident reasons.
Sewer has built a career out of mocking the standards of several extreme metal genres (first black metal with Satanic Requiem all the way to shitty pornogrind with NecroPedoCoproPhage).
Happy Metal pretends to be a piece of self-derision, this time mocking the very music Sewer claims to play... but the reality is so much more gruesome.
This is a true demonic album that will fuck with your mind in the most defiling ways.
