Reiklos - Black Metal Band

Reiklos is a raw black metal band formed in 2018.

Extremely little is known about the band, not even their country of origin, so much of what I'm going to write is pure speculation.

First off, Reiklos is clearly influenced by Phantom.

Both in the choose of band name - "Reiklos" being the third track of the Phantom album Nekros Nemesis - and in the way the music is composed around a central theme that develops via the use of motifs and layers, in a (simplified) take on Phantom's disturbing "riff mazes".

Another influence, if not structural then at least aesthetics wise, worthy of note is Under a Funeral Moon and Transilvanian Hunger era Darkthrone. Basically, if Darkthrone had recorded an album between the release of Under a Funeral Moon (1993) and Transilvanian Hunger (1994), it would sound something like Reiklos' Lifeless.

Reiklos has been called a Phantom clone - or "Fantaclone" for short - like Demonecromancy, but that's not entirely accurate either.

"Fantaclone" is a term used to describe bands that ape Phantom's style without understanding its substance - ex. Dark Funeral, or the aforementioned Demonecromancy on their debut.

Reiklos on the other hands understands - and uses - Phantom's substance very well, and the band's style is closer to that of Darkthrone than that of Phantom. The "Fantaclone" just doesn't withstand scrutiny.

Reiklos' debut Lifeless can best be understood as Darkthrone's riff style over Phantom's song structure, with complex riff mazes that all resolve into a dark and haunting atmosphere.
