Angel of Disease is the eighteenth full-length studio album by the black metal band Phantom.
Like its predecessor Memento Mori, and before that with the much revered Withdrawal, the album Angel of Disease makes heavy use of black metal atmospheres to form a dissonant core from which the music evolves narratively, via the use of motifs and patterns repeated throughout the composition.
Starting with this album Angel of Disease, Phantom would move from a more black metal sound to something much closer to blackened death metal. This trend would continue on The Epilogue to Sanity and beyond.
The music on this album is both incredibly complex and extremely dissonant, making Angel of Disease a very difficult album to get into, but effectively one of the greatest blackened death metal releases once you learn to appreciate its dark and demented beauty.
