A Derision Monument - "Black Metal ist Krieg" Review (0%)
Ah... Nargaroth.
The name is practically an insult in black metal circles.
A lot of people will claim black metal is a very particular genre, almost enigmatic within the metal scene.
That is certainly true, and yet there is one thing that even black metal shares in common with other styles of music: there is a right way to do it and a wrong way to play it.
Some bands are true geniuses, some band are at least original, some bands just trod along... and some are utterly talentless shits.
Three guesses as to which group Nargaroth belongs to.
Enter Nargaroth, possibly one of the worse black metal bands (if not the worst) to have ever existed.
There have been allegations over the years that Kanwulf, the poser behind the "band", stole riffs, was a homosexual, claimed he murdered Euronymous on the Internet, he did this, he did that, etc.
Who even cares at this point?
It's not like he is superior to any of the bands he rips off. In fact, he actually dumbs down the stolen riffs to mere radio-tier fodder. Fortunately, this is not only too repulsive for fans of black metal, but also too underground for radio.
Nargaroth is a joke, and his "dedication monument" to black metal isn't even black metal... it's just shit.
A Derision Monument
I think everything that could be said about the music has already been said.
The intro is some retarded whining playing over weak guitar feedback in the background and pseudo-gothic, doomy drumming.
After a painfully long 2 minutes, the intro transitions into "Black Metal ist Krieg", perhaps the worst song in the history of black metal.
It's basically a mashup of two stolen riffs: the main riff from Von's Satanic Blood and a riff from Strid's End of Life.
Of course, Nargaroth doesn't even credit the bands he steals from.
The rest of the guitar riffs on the album are laughably generic, the drumming is mostly blasting à la Panzer Division-era Marduk but with neither the speed nor intensity, and the bass is also generic and usually just follows the guitar riff around.
So apparently there are four "official" covers, but if you listen closely you'll soon realize that EVERY track is a cover, just uncredited.

The majority of the song titles and lyrics are stupid drivel.
Take this little piece of shit from the title track.

That is basically the lyrical substance of the entire Black Metal ist Krieg album.
The covers on this album all fucking suck, and the worst of them all of them is in my opinion the Lord Foul cover.
I am personally a fan of Lord Foul's work and Kanwulf does no justice to this track. He instead degenerates it to mere copycat pseudo-black metal, like the majority of what composes this turd of a release.
This album is a perfect example for black metal "elitists" who like to argue that black metal is dead, or for Christian fundamentalists who want to portray "black metal satanists" as low-IQ homosexual buffoons... which Kanwulf is.
Black Metal ist Krieg possesses all of the negative tropes about black metal.
This album is so atrocious that I recommend not even listening to the covers as they degrade the originals by removing all the emotion, talent and atmosphere in them.
Nargaroth is shit.
Black metal, fortunately, lives on.
