Grand Declaration of War is the third release by the black metal band Mayhem, and their second full-length studio album.

After Varg Vikernes of the black metal band Burzum killed Mayhem guitarist Euronymous in 1993, shortly before the release of the De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas album, the band effectively ceased to exist as only the drummer Hellhammer was left.

Starting in 1997, Mayhem members Hellhammer and Necrobutcher tried to reform the band, notably bringing back the ex-vocalist Maniac and recruiting guitarist Blasphemer. They also tried to get Varg Vikernes to play bass from prison, to no avail.

In May 2000, they released their third studio album Grand Declaration of War which featured more experimental and avant-garde tendencies than usual for a Mayhem album.

According to the legend, Varg Vikernes contributed to some of the spoken-word lyrics and, if played backwards, they mock the death of the "commie fag" Euronymous.
