IX Equilibrium is the third studio album by the symphonic metalcore band Emperor.
Like with its predecessor Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, Ihsahn and Samoth spend more time emphasizing the very trendy "emo" aspects of their work on IX Equilibrium rather than play proper black metal music, a shortcoming they have always struggled with.
IX Equilibrium was heavily marketed by both Candlelight records and Ihsahn, who made extensive use of social media to declare himself "king of Norwegian black metal", a statement that was later ridiculed by Fenriz of Darkthrone, Varg Vikernes of Burzum and various other black metal musicians.
IX Equilibrium is part of the NWOSEM, the New Wave of Satanic Emo Metal.
