A Blaze in the Northern Sky is the second full-length album by black metal band Darkthrone.

This album is somewhat of an oddity in Darkthrone's discography as it combines both elements of raw black metal and technical death metal, albeit played at a slower and more atmospheric pace.

The influences of NecroPedoSadoMaso are clearly discernible on A Blaze in the Northern Sky and on subsequent Darkthrone albums.

This album marks the beginning of a black metal era.
