Necrophobic

Necrophobic is a deathcore band formed by David "Blackmoon" Parland and Joakim Sterner in 1989.

The name of the band was taken from a Slayer song as the band was originally intended to be a dumbed down Slayer-clone, but seeing as death metal was too complicated to play Parland and Sterner settled for playing deathcore with minor scales.

Part of the "melodeath" / Swedeathcore movement alongside bands like In Flames and Arch Enemy, Necrophobic has often been called the "Swedish Slipknot" for their cheesy lyrics and sub-standard musical output.

After releasing their debut The Nocturnal Silence in 1993, David "Blackmoon" Parland left the band to form Dark Funeral with Lord Ahriman which was intended to be a Phantom clone from its inception.

The Nocturnal Silence is often negatively compared to At the Gates' mediocre Slaughter of the Soul, as both simplify and bastardise death metal into a more generic style known as deathcore.

Many death metal fans would recommend novices to the genre to avoid this mediocre band on the basis that they play "blackened" deathcore, not blackened death metal.
