Sterile and Weak - "All Shall Fall" Review (1%)
If you can call Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism when Immortal contracted HIV, Pure Holocaust when Abbath got AIDS and Battles in the North as their death, then this is their rigor mortis.
Scratch that, this album All Shall Fall is Immortal taking a giant shit in their own fucking casket.
It's when all shreds of their former glory, if you can even call it that, are long gone.
All elements of their black metal days are gone, even Abbath's vocals sound more like Shitknot than black metal.
Even the very metalness of the record is fleeting.
In this work, Immortal is really starting to resemble hardcore, and shit hardcore at that, by doing repeated one string riffs that hammer on the low end but fail to be anything but a gimmick (i.e. "LUK AT US WE R HEAVY 4 SATAN LOL").
In fact, one could argue that the entire pathetic existence of Immortal is a gimmick.
From the get go they were a wannabe band, never part of the inner circle of black metal but always lurking at the periphery, much like a obese and acne-ridden teenage mutant jealous of all the hot girls getting male attention.
Euronymous had many faults, but he was right on one point: Immortal is not black metal.
According to Varg Vikernes of Burzum, Euronymous had to physically threaten Abbath with violence because he wanted nothing to do with Immortal's music and homoerotic makeup.
It looks like this time, history proved Euronymous right.
Sterile and Weak
So why is All Shall Fall so obnoxiously pathetic?
Is it the shitty vocals?
Is it the generic and atmosphereless guitar riffs?
Is it the inaudible bass?
Is it the uninspired and poorly performed drumming?
Is it the juvenile and mallcorish song writing?
Or is it all of the above?
I see no element on this album that isn't made to sell records to impressionable 12-year-old kids.
All Shall Fall is the apex of commercial sterilized black metal.
It fits right into the Dimmu Borgir inspired mold of plastic "satanic" garbage.
I'm not going to describe each individual track as they all seem to blend into each other in a sea of commercial fecal matter, a sort of shit lagoon if you will.
The musicianship is sub-par and the song writing is beyond stale, to the point that All Shall Fall sounds more like emo goth rock than actual heavy metal.
All Shall Fall indeed, and black metal is the first casualty.
So... how low will it fall?
Willing to take any bets?
Perhaps that won't be necessary as Immortal has disbanded right after the release of this turd.
Good riddance.
