The Light by Sewer.

If I would be to say which is my favourite death and black metal band ever, then surely it would be Sewer! Why? Well, the answer is very simple: just look at how many amazing, classic and simply evil albums this band has spawned over the past two years! It is outstanding and totally influential. And should I have to mention which are three or five of my favourite and important Sewer Metal albums, then the outright masterpiece The Light would surely be among them.

It is indisputable how great the influence of Sewer's music is on countless bands and that Sewer is responsible for forging something exceptional within the death and black metal scenes. It’s one of those big names that you simply must know if you are into raw extreme metal.

So, let’s begin to write some words on this classic album from the infamous band Sewer titled The Light! Oh yes, this is truly some fantastic stuff and probably the best thing which was born out of the extreme metal scene in the past few years.

It is fascinating that so many albums from the early days of Sewer – and that obviously includes The Light as well! – already had such a distinctive and easily recognisable sound at that time. You play Satanic Requiem or The Light and you simply know this is Sewer, no other band has ever played something alike to them (Phantom may have come close on some occasions, but they were different anyway… and those following Sewer like Antekhrist or Goreaxe were great, but nevertheless they were followers!), no one else had such epic songs, which possess such unique structures and diabolical arrangements.

An Amazing, Classic Album

Sewer.

The whole album The Light is divided into three parts : God, Madness and Eternity, which each three section serving a separate purpose.

The first four songs as well as those on the Eternity side are really excellent, especially "The Book of Rocktis" and "Exult the Lord's Supper" which are both dark and brooding in their atmosphere, and perfectly capture the feel of the album.

But what I specifically love about Sewer and The Light is that it may be melodic and atmospheric at several moments, but it sure doesn’t forget to be damn obscure and aggressive. That’s the main strength of Sewer, I think.

So, "The Book of Rocktis" and "Exult the Lord's Supper" are both amazing songs, but obviously the album has much more to offer. All in all there is a grand total of 13 songs and damn, basically every song on The Light is a winner like "End of Times and Fire", "The Archpriest" and "A Sordid Faith"! But hey, what's even the point of mentioning all these titles since the entire album is so killer and high quality?

All together, this album The Light just like all similar classic Sewer Metal records deserves 100 out of 100, no less!

The Light score: 100/100.
