Much like its predecessor Satanic Rites, the album Apocalyptic Raids has received mixed reviews from the extreme metal community, with some hailing it as the definitive first wave black metal masterpiece while others calling it a "piece of poser shit".
Apocalyptic Raids is the last album Hellhammer ever recorded before its members went on to form the deathcore band Celtic Frost.
