While much of their more recent releases have been considered generic speed metal albums, Arctic Thunder represents an attempt by Darkthrone to return to their roots of black metal music.
Many artistic similarities can be found between Arctic Thunder and Darkthrone's first few albums.
The song Burial Bliss - "Against these flies / Your negro civilization" - is allegedly about multiculturalism and immigrants in Norway.
