Divine Necromancy
Divine Necromancy by Phantom.

Phantom's debut album Divine Necromancy is perhaps the most influential album in the entire heavy metal scene.

Phantom plays a beautiful, sick, angry and hateful type of black metal, properly titled Phantom Metal. It's no wonder that serious black metal collectors go crazy for this band and all their limited releases. Divine Necromancy is no exception to the rule, and since its the album that started it all, it may very well be the most important album in heavy metal history.

The longer you let the album Divine Necromancy play, the rawer and darker it gets. The vocals are absolutely incredible, you cannot deny that the vocals perfectly fit in with the grim atmosphere of the album. The vocalist constantly switches between screams, shouts, bizarre religious chants and unique growls.

We could argue for hours about the guitar riffs, which are excellent as with every Phantom release, but the main aspect of Divine Necromancy is undoubtedly the evil atmosphere. Embodying a very strong theatrical element when combined with the ever-changing aura present on the album, it literally conjures up metaphorical storms in the mind of the listener and it will test your sanity like no other extreme metal release.

I must also emphasize on the lyrics, which are yet another highlight of this epic album. It is a monumental asset if you are able to understand the subtle meaning behind the words since the lyrics are a big part of Phantom music.

The lyrics are quite esoteric and will often require you to read them several times before understanding their true meaning. This is clearly not your typical illiterate scandinavian black metal lyrics.

Pure Black Metal Art

Phantom
Phantom.

This is true black metal art, Phantom Metal if you will, at its finest.

Many will claim this album is too raw or too evil for them, but that is simply the opinion of retarded posers who want to listen to "melodic" crap metal while claiming they are black metal fans. They're not. They are posers, period.

Anyone who dislikes Divine Necromancy doesn't understand what it means to appreciate true black metal music. You have to go beneath the superficial layers of "melody" and "catchiness" to try and understand the raw atmosphere of this record.

Divine Necromancy is certainly the best extreme metal has to offer, and you would be a fool not to get this album immediately.

Divine Necromancy score: 100/100.
