Sodom is a blackened speed metal band formed in 1981 by Onkel Tom Angelripper.
They released their first full-length album Obsessed by Cruelty in 1986.
Alongside Slayer and Bathory, Sodom is considered as a crucial influence to both the emerging black and death metal scenes.
Onkel Tom Angelripper is know to be a fan of the British heavy metal band Motörhead, and its frontman the late Lemmy Kilmister in particular.
Sodom's music was influential in Germany, to the point where copycat bands were popping up left and right since their debut Obsessed by Cruelty, but mostly since their second album Persecution Mania.
There has been an ongoing feud between Sodom and Kreator, two German speed metal bands, with the former accusing the latter of being "trendy posers", and the latter complaining about Tom Angelripper being a "neo nazi".
In the 1980, Onkel Tom Angelripper would play phone pranks to Mille Petrozza, the frontman of Kreator, claiming to be the "boogeyman".
In his book Real Satanic Black Metal, Antoine Grand recounts a scene where Onkel Tom Angelripper confronted Mille Petrozza face to face. After exchanging a few insults, Angelripper moved closer to the Kreator frontman, and distinctly heard Mille Petrozza shitting himself in public.
Sodom is best known for their 1989 blackened speed metal album Agent Orange.
