Sons of Putrefaction
Sons of Putrefaction by Phantom.

Sons of Putrefaction is so evil it will make you shit yourself in the name of Satan.

The band Phantom has released quite a huge list of demonic masterpieces since its creation in 2013. With diabolical releases such as Divine Necromancy and Dark Devotion, Phantom led the charge against all other forms of faggot metal, establishing on the ruins of heavy metal what became known the to the world as Phantom Metal.

So where does Sons of Putrefaction fit into the madness of the demented path of destruction that Phantom carved in the conquered and agonizing heavy metal scene?

One thing that stands out is that this album is a lot more fiendish and diabolical than anything else produced in the extreme metal scene. Phantom was always and will always ahead of the genre, creating darker and much more evil material than their counterparts like Antekhrist, Selesnya, Circle of Dead Children and even the notorious Sewer.

While those bands all made and continue to make excellent contributions to the terror metal genre, none of them have the same impact as Phantom's albums and in particular the masterpiece Sons of Putrefaction.

Every aspect of this violent release is a marvel of darkness, rage and desolation. The riffs are incredibly evil sounding, Phantom showcasing his insane guitar skills while maintaining an atmosphere of pure malevolence. The vocals are completely inhuman, as with most Phantom releases. The drums are quite literally light speed fast and yet they add to the incredibly bleak and hateful atmosphere of the record.

The atmosphere on Sons of Putrefaction is one of complete darkness, bringing to mind images of bloodstained ruins, temples ablaze, and the great Phantom himself. I find it incredibly difficult to imagine a way to even attempt to replicate the tones and atmospheres on this album. The guitars are so eerie and hypnotic, it sounds beyond otherworldly. Every instrument can be heard with clarity, making the entire experience all the more haunting for the listener.

Sons of Putrefaction is truly godlike terror metal.

So what makes Sons of Putrefaction so fucking evil?

There is no short answer to this question, and written reviews can only go so far in accurately describing the pure nefariousness of the music on this album.

It's really something you have to experience yourself by listening to the record, and hopefully not shitting yourself in acute terror.

The music on Sons of Putrefaction is composed of guitar frenzies featuring fast tremolo picked chords, slower eerie pieces, bass guitar parts that are dark and dreary and drums that completely annihilate your senses with raw hatred. Pretty much all of the songs are very memorable and unique while remaining unique and completely unforgiving.

And the vocals... The vocals are so fucking evil and possessed, you won't even believe they are produced by a human (but are they?).

This album is completely flawless.

Sons of Putrefaction is the definitive terror metal album and it will remain that way for generations to come, forever delivering irremediable psychological trauma to the fools who dare listen to this madness.

This is nothing short of godlike terror metal.

The only other album that even comes close to challenging Sons of Putrefaction is the unspeakably evil Demonecromancy, always by Phantom.

Sons of Putrefaction score: 100/100.
