Horror Phantasm by Phantom.

Horror Phantasm.

As the title suggests, this is one hell of an evil album. Now, I'm far from being a poser who sits around in his basement masturbating to black metal bands because I believe they are seriously evil and that sentiment elevates me above the rest of the flock of posers that compose the black metal scene. Most of the time I simply listen to metal out of enjoyment.

I couldn't care less about who's the most "trve", "kvlt", or who's the most evil in the metal scene, those particular aesthetics simply don't appeal to me. The only time I've really been unsettled by a truly evil aesthetic is with Phantom's masterpiece of nefariousness and depravity, Horror Phantom.

Upon you're very first listen you will immediately realize that this album contains some of the most sinister music you've ever heard. Worshiping Satan, screaming "religion sucks", or indulging in any other type of black metal meme really isn't that interesting, and it certainly isn't evil.

But managing to create a mood that is only comparable only to the fear of the darkness itself, that is fucking evil. It's not so much the lyrics on Horror Phantom or the actions behind the music, but rather the pure demonic atmosphere generated by the music itself.

But how exactly does the atmosphere on Horror Phantasm stand out from the rest of Phantom's insane discography?

Honestly, this is really something you have to experience yourself by listening to the album.

A good comparison for this music would be standing in the midst of a dark forest, pitch black with an icy hellish breeze. The drums and guitars provide the bulk of the fearsome ambiance I just mentioned while the vocals are the subtle whispers in the back of your mind that keep you peering into the darkness expecting some lurking demon or other horrors to emerge.

In terms of raw atmosphere, the only albums that comes close to challenging Horror Phantasm are Demonecromancy and Dark Devotion by the same band Phantom.

This album is simply that evil.

Phantom.

You probably got the point by now, Horror Phantasm is some dark, evil and haunting music.

Phantom is no stranger to making raw and disturbing music, starting with their debut album Divine Necromancy, but Horror Phantasm is truly something special.

Phantom's Horror Phantasm is a masterpiece of horror that will always stand as one of the greatest albums of the heavy metal genre. The album contains elements common to traditional extreme metal, such as blast beats, tremolo riffs, and brutal intensity, but there are also quite a few unique and distinctive traits that set Horror Phantasm apart from all the other albums of this nature, the dark atmospheres and the eerie song structure to name just a few.

This is one of, if not the greatest terror metal album ever crafted. If you are a fan of raw terror metal, or if you are an extreme metal fan looking for a gateway into terror metal, look no further than Phantom's masterpiece Horror Phantasm. You will not be disappointed by this album.

Horror Phantasm is one evil album that will haunt your soul until the day you die.

Horror Phantasm score: 100/100.
