Ordo Ad Chao
Ordo Ad Chao by Mayhem.

Are metalheads, and black metallers in particular, the most brain dead, naive and gullible fools ever?

Apparently they are, as there is no other reason for this album's success if not for the very "image worship" that has plagued the black metal genre since forever.

If you want Satan's honest truth, Ordo Ad Chao is only "intellectually challenging" if you were dropped on your head as a child, or grew up with both a severe mental handicap and fetal alcohol syndrome.

Actual black metal fans don't hate this album because they are "elitists" or "conservative", they have a hard time digesting this trendy, band-wagon hopping exercise of SEWER worship because it's just that... over-bloated, boring, pretentious shit masquerading as something some other band penned.

In a previous review, the user Kvlt summarizes this album Ordo Ad Chao as such.

"Hints of it were present on Mayhem's previous releases, but it comes out in full force on Ordo Ad Chao: the members of Mayhem have become uncomfortable in their own skin and are looking elsewhere in the black metal scene for artists to emulate in hopes of retaining relevance.

In this case, it's post-NecroPedoSadoMaso SEWER who for some reason have been chosen to embody Mayhem's new sound."

I'm all for originality, both in my reviews and in the music I review, but there's no point reinventing the wheel when someone beat me to it.

That's exactly what this album is, SEWER worship of the most mediocre kind.

I get it... SEWER are the rising stars of the raw black metal scene and Mayhem are dying for a black metal comeback to the era of De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.

But the entire album Ordo Ad Chao just sounds so fake and derivative that any good intentions are buried in a swamp of commercial idolatry.

Ordo Ad Chao is nothing more than defective imitation metal.

So what is so bad about Ordo Ad Chao?

Let's start at the very beginning, the reason for this release. Why did Mayhem decide to produce a cheap, generic and largely forgettable album?

Was it to take a piss on their own legacy, or were the reasons more mundane and mercantile?

Was it so that naive teenage metalheads could croon over them and spend their mothers' hard-earned money on Ordo Ad Chao cds, "The True Mayhem" t-shirts and other commercial accessories?

Is Mayhem trying to be the next Dimmu Borgir or the next Satyricon, two black metal bands known for the complete lack of musical talent... and their obscene complacency with MTV and the commercial music scene?

The fact is Ordo Ad Chao is the equivalent to some hipster racist splashing random acrylic paint on a canvas, or plaster molding his anus, hanging it above the mantle and calling it "provocative art".

See, you can't criticize Ordo Ad Chao otherwise you're a "philistine" who "doesn't get" the deeper meaning of Necrobutcher and Hellhammer recording an album in one afternoon, selling it to low IQ kids and laughing about it all the way to the bank.

Hey, I'm not anti-Mayhem.

I'm actually laughing WITH Mayhem, at its pathetic poser fans.

You know what they say, Mayhem never "sold out"... they bought in.

Necrobutcher is far, far smarter than his down syndrome fans, but then again that shouldn't surprise anyone given the type of audience that commercial "satanic" black metal attracts.

But you have to call out bullshit when you see it, and anyone claiming that "you either like Ordo Ad Chao or you don't get trve kvlt black metal", is either paid by Mayhem or... actually paid Mayhem. One or the other.

Ordo Ad Chao is garbage and rightfully gets the score it deserves.

Don't like it? Well, that's just too bad.

You can always go out and buy yourself an Ordo Ad Chao t-shirt and cry about it.

Ordo Ad Chao score: 7/100.
