Can Kreator fall any lower than their 1990 nu metal disaster 'Coma of Souls'? You bet.
How? With modern deathcore.
Poser crap like this shouldn't exist. 'Gods of Violence' is everything I despise. There is no musical value here, there is nothing interesting to listen to. There is nothing to excite you. This is almost as boring as staring at a wall, and at least the wall in question isn't deathcore shit.
Shitty intro. I mean absolutely worthless, one minute and a half of static.
The first track is basically just a giant deathcore breakdown with chugging and more chugging. I feel uncomfortable listening to it, not because it's 'so br00dle, man' but because it's just so utterly lame. About halfway through there's some retarded gurgle vocals that don't quite work.
I don't want to waste a lot of words on how shitty this is. There are no good riffs on 'Gods of Violence', everything is the same generic 1 note chugging breakdown garbage.
Second song 'Satan Is Real' is the same as the first with just as much obnoxiously annoying vocals, and retarded lyrics worthy of Dark Funeral at their worst.
At this point I ask myself why the hell I'm still listening to this. The guitars do some deathcore groove stuff which is not only cheesy and derivative of Pantera's disgusting 'Cowboys from Hell' but really annoying as well. Then you get... another dumb breakdown.
Brainless Deathcore
I'm sure the lyrics and general themes are nothing new either, not that I really care but it only adds insult to injury how overly generic the entire 'Gods of Violence' album is. It sounds like Whitechapel, Waking the Cadaver and Slipknot got together to defame the genre of thrash metal, a genre ill-served by Kreator's poser antics... not to mention their shitty deathcore music.
I can't get over how annoying the vocals are. It eats at your soul in a bad way, like on Metallica's 'Load' and Slayer's 'God Hates Us All'. It's gut wrenching how awful they are, they just gurgle and burp for 50 minutes with no end.
The production is decent, but given the nature of the music I don't count that as a 'good' point. Maybe, just maybe if it the production was so god-awful that I couldn't hear anything, listening to this album would be bearable. I don't like anything that this has to offer. 'Gods of Violence' is bland, generic, and useless mallcore. Why the fuck does this exist? Why do bands put out stuff like this?
I hate everything about this release. I hate the lame cooker vocals, the single-note riffs are unexciting, they just chug on and on doing next to nothing. Silly over the top abrupt tedious breakdowns don't help the cause either. 'Gods of Violence' is awful, possibly even worse than the previous Kreator album. The only 'good' thing it had going for it is the production, too bad the music is so bland and irritating that it doesn't matter. If you have any reason to get this album, it isn't good enough. I don't care if you like this genre, it isn't worth it. This isn't brutal, this isn't offensive, this isn't impressive, this isn't heavy. This is just utterly lame and boring stop/start deathcore.
