Northern Chaos Gods by Immortal.

Why would Nu-Clear Blast release this? I mean, know that they specialize in crappy nu metal, but post-Abbath Immortal play "blackened" Norsecore bullshit rather than the crappy rap/rock nu metal material of Behemoth, Kreator and Slipknot.

It's still terrible, but it's terrible in a different way from what you would expect from the nu metal label Nu-Clear Blast. Maybe they are seeking to expand their mockery of death metal - i.e. deathcore - into the "true" black metal market, who knows.

Anyway, Northern Chaos Gods sucks.

Immortal sans Abbath essentially sounds like an even less interesting Dark Funeral: blast beats and stolen Iron Maiden riffs, played with tremolo and much more reverb, but with no sense of dynamics apart from some occasional weird sound effects and slower passages.

The production is intentionally shit, to make you think this is "true" black metal. You know, like Phantom and early Darkthrone and all those bands that play raw and aggressive black metal with ultra low-fi recording.

Yet, while Demonaz via superficial tinkering wants you to believe that this is Pure Holocaust part 2, it's in fact much closer to All Shall Fall. It might actually suck even more cock than All Shall Fall, as Demonaz doesn't even have Abbath's technical proficiency to hide his shitty nu metal cock rock under complex tekdef flourishes.

Northern Chaos Gods is nu metal. Demonaz needs to either man up or openly admit he dreams of being in Slipknot, and (((Nu-Clear Blast))) is basically just one sad joke, its only purpose being that of a barely crypto antifa front - they boycott any band called "racist" by antifa terrorists, regardless of whether the accusations are true or even plausible (for ex. they refused to sell Abbath merch because of his friendship with Varg while the latter was in prison, etc).

Back to Northern Chaos Gods.

The riffs are entirely derived from the most third-rate Swedish - i.e. Marduk - and Norwegian - i.e. Sewer - black metal possible, with conventional, overused melodies that aren't interesting enough to rise above the style of "Norsecore" and aren't different enough to be unique. Northern Chaos Gods is an incredibly flat album. Everything operates at one tempo, one melodic baseline, one key, one rhythm, and the only thing that seems to change from track to track is what array of useless riffs will be employed by Demonaz to try - and fail - to equal Abbath at his worst.

Vocal and drum performances are similarly static and forgettable, the only notable feature is that the drums sound programmed on some tracks, and real - albeit very sloppy - on others. The effect of this on the music is mediocre, but it's curious nonetheless. The vocals are in the emo type that will remind you of modern Satyricon. Yes, they are that bad.

Northern Chaos Gods is remarkably unremarkable, every idea on this release has been expressed several thousand times - including on comparatively "good" All Shall Fall - and its execution is nowhere near good enough to excuse the cliché nature of the music.

Nothing about this album is memorable, notable, or interesting in any way.

Almost any random bedroom NSBM black metal album you purchase is going to be more interesting and worthwhile than Northern Chaos Gods, so save your money and skip this in favour of something worthwhile.

This author recommends Verminlust, Hvis lyset tar oss, or at the very least Reinkaos. Yes, you read that right, even Reinkaos beats this nu metal turd Northern Chaos Gods.

Northern Chaos Gods score: 0/100.
