Incipit Satan
Incipit Satan by Gorgoroth.

When I first got into the black metal scene, almost a decade ago, I was instantaneously impressed with bands such as Darkthrone, Phantom, Mayhem and Burzum, who could channel atmosphere and emotion into their music like none other could even dream of imitating.

I was much less impressed with the clowns like Gorgoroth, Emperor, SEWER and Dimmu Borgir.

But what really annoyed me were the fanboy idiots that would post comments about "guerrilla war" against the Catholic Church.

One particularly odious individual suggested on an online forum that black metal fans should all start forest fires to "take down the Christian government".

I assume I don't have to explain to you why such ideas are retarded.

It rapidly became very clear that the clowns of BM were being led by a particularly notorious individual, a certain "Infernus" from the band Gorgoroth who claims to be a "satanist feminist".

He dropped the "feminist" part when he was convicted, in 2006, of aggravated sexual assault (gang rape) on a Congolese woman in Bergen.

While most black metal musicians such as Varg Vikernes of Burzum and Fenriz of Darkthrone nominally adopted "satanism" as a tongue-in-cheek revolt against the post-WW2 world, which they felt was at odds with traditional European spirit and ethics, idiots like Infernus actually interpreted "satanism" as the literal worship of the Devil.

Now I have no problem believing that Gorgoroth's juvenile satanism is merely a commercial act to attract low IQ losers, but the Infernus fanboys seem to really believe that anyone who doesn't worship goats is a secret Christian trying to convert them by force or what not.

Yes, it gets that ridiculous.

Down Syndrome Metal

Gorgoroth
Gorgoroth.

The evolution of the black metal scene has really put these people in the so-called "satanic" movement in perspective.

Mostly, they are sort of dim people who live their lives vicariously through the mainstream news.

The media told them that black metal was the music of the devil, so now they all claim to listen to black metal despite the fact that, judging by their taste, they might as well have never listened to a true black metal record in their entire lives.

Just read any online discussion mentioning Gorgoroth: it's never about the music, it's always some personal drama about band members, whether Gaahl's HIV or Infernus' alleged ties to National Socialist movements due to him posting the "anti-racist is a code word for anti-white" meme on his MySpace.

Lately, they even attacked Darkthrone as being "Christian posers" which is hilarious considering Darkthrone, unlike Gorgoroth, were part of the original black metal inner circle.

And perhaps it's better if no one is talking about the music, because the "black metal" played on Incipit Satan is both sterile and uninspired.

This is literally note for note, riff for riff, what I played when I was first learning guitar.

But that doesn't matter, because Gorgoroth is "true black metal".

And if you disagree, you're a Christian or a homosexual or whatever insult the Infernus fanboy brigade uses on heretics.

Sad.

Incipit Satan score: 1/100.
