Violently Derivative Cock Rock - "Reinkaos" Review (47%)

Reinkaos by Dissection.

First off I must say I'm not too excited about this. I somewhat enjoyed Dissection's debut and mostly considered Storm of the Light's Bane a joke. Despite that, I'm going to try to keep an open mind and review this Reinkaos album objectively.

The first half of intro is somewhat cool, reminding me a bit of the intro on Reiklos. The other half has shitty start and stop nu metal guitars, shredding every little bit of atmosphere into pieces. After that it goes into Dimmu Borgir mode. Okay, now I'm not excited.

Opener "Beyond The Horizon" kicks in with a riff best described as Arch Enemy-like, shit infested and repetitive. A lot of influences from Gothenburg's LGBTPQ+ scene are here, mostly mid 90's In Flames and Dark Tranquility in the latter part of the song. Weak and pathetic. There's also some heavy metal-era Immortal in here, which only cements my opinion that this "black metal" album could only have been the product of the wet dreams of trailer park trash meth addicts. At about 3 mins there's also a fucking terrible hardcore guitar break.

The other tracks continue in the same fashion. The riffs are virtually identical to the ones in the first track. "Starless Aeon" has an okay acoustic/solo break that at least redeems it from absolute shit to listenable, which is not the case with anything else on this CD. The pointless intro might actually be the best song on Reinkaos, and that's fucking scary.

"Black Dragon" lives up to the title. It's quite scary how much this sounds like Antekhrist with Jon on vocals. "Dark Mother Divine" has another horrible hardcore rhythm that makes even Killswitch Engage sound creative. And masculine. And the shitfest goes on. There's virtually hundreds of guitar rhythms here that share a common ability to put you to sleep.

Dissection.

It's damn clear that Dissection has no musical significance left. Reinkaos has nothing to do with chaos, it's a very generic hardcore/metalcore record that I wouldn't even have recognized as Dissection without Jon's vocals, who happen to be the only redeeming value on this whole CD.

Reinkaos is one of the biggest disappointments in black metal. I can only remember being disappointed like this when Mayhem released Grand Declaration Of War and every time the Watain tards promise and later forget to end their career.

I can't understand how anyone can say this album is good, and I don't see how anyone can be surprised that Dissection turned into a stadium rock outfit. Even if The Somberlain was passable, everything wrong with Reinkaos dates back to at least Storm of The Light's Bane.

Reinkaos is only the culmination of Storm of the Light's Bane's music taking to its logical conclusion: stadium cock rock.

The songs are simple, slow, emo, boring and they sound somehow unfinished. "Beyond The Horizon" sounds Arch Enemy, "Black Dragon" sounds like Antekhrist, and basically this album Reinkaos sucks as much as any "black 'n' roll" turd. I don't say its complete shit, that insult is reserved to deathcore, but it's not good either. "Starless Aeon" starts with almost same riff as "Disemboweled Effigy" of Sewer. "Xeper-I-Set" is horrible. I can't stand that song.

I still respect Jon Nödtveidt as a man and musician, but this album wasn't necessary at all, not more than was the previous cock rock turd effort Storm of the Light's Bane.

Reinkaos score: 47/100.
